♠ Hair は髪breadth は横幅ですから、髪の毛の幅でと言う感じですね。breadth の d を忘れると呼吸になってしまうのでお忘れなく。

♠ pick a scab 「かさぶたを取る。」は普段使う表現ですが、教科書にはまず出てきませんので知らない方が多いと思います。子供との日常会話には必須ですので覚えておきましょう。

♠ 蛇足ですが、昔陰毛を public hair だと思っていてなんで public(公共)の毛なんだろうと思っていましたら、l が多くて pubic hair だったなんでお馬鹿さんな事を思い出しました。

我慢
I can't take(stand) it any longer.

---ここが我慢のしどころだ。
♠ be patient が我慢の意味では広く一般的に使用されます。痛みや苦しみに耐えるのが、bear 自制して我慢するのが、stand 怒りを我慢する「じっと耐える」というよりも「しょうがないと諦める」軽い気持ちを表す。のが、put up with などになります。耐えるという意味ではその他にendure:tolerate などもあります。

変わり者(変人)
He is always wearing eccentric clothes.

♠ eccentric 人・行動などが普通でない。風変わり。

♠ 普通と違い何か奇妙。

♠ とくにアメリカ英語で使用されます。
会社
「会社」という英語には、company/corporation/firm などがよく使用されます。
その他にも会社を表す単語がございますが、上記の3点が主なものになります。
ではその違いをご説明していきます。
company
法人格の企業から個人の共同体などまで幅広く使用できます。
corporation
もっぱら法人企業、しかも大手企業を指すときに使われます。
firm
accounting firm(会計事務所)、law firm(法律事務所)など、ある種のプロ集団の組織を言うときに好んで使用されます。
また、新聞などでは同じ単語を続けて使う事を嫌いますのでそのような時に代替の単語として使用されます。
♠ 「corporation」と間違え安く良く使う単語に「cooperation(協力, 協同, 提携)」があります。
発音は、「コウアプレイション」のような感じで、
Thank you for your cooperation.(ご協力ありがとうございます。)
などと祝辞を述べる時に使用するのですが、どうもこれが「corporation」の発音になって「あなたの会社にありがとう」に聞こえている場合が多いようです。
「我が社」などと言う場合に、My company とは言いますけど、My corporation とは言いません。corporation は法人格を意識していますので「我が法人は」のような響きになってしまいます。
会社を使った普段使用するフレーズ

・どちらの会社にお勤めですか?

・法律事務所で働いています。

♠ この場合も「corporation」では法人格の大きな会社のイメージがすでにその言葉の中にありますので使いません。 That company went bankrupt last year.
・あの会社が去年倒産したよ。

・あの会社は景気がいい。
かかわらず
My English is pretty poor, even though I lived in new york for a time as a child.
---子供の時ニューヨークに住んでいたにもかかわらず私の英語はひどいもんです。
♠ though と同じように使用される単語に although があります。一般的に though よりも形式ばった語で 主節に先だつ時はどちらかと言えば although を用います。また although は, 副詞的に文尾に置くことはできません。
Although he had worked very hard, he failed the examination.
---彼は大いに勉強したにもかかわらず試験に落第した。
It was hard to move. Nevertheless, he meved it easily.
---動かすのが困難にも拘らず、彼は簡単に動かした。
♠ nevertheless は頻繁に使用されますので押さえておきましょう。
Despite the rain, He washed his car.
---雨にもかかわらず、彼は洗車をしていた。
♠ In spite ofに似た単語に despite があります。違いはこちらは文語的で新聞などでよく用いられます。
He is very strong ~ his age.
---彼は老齢にもかかわらず大変丈夫だ。

---年齢性別に拘らず、このゲームは誰でも楽しめます。

干渉
「干渉する」は日本語で同じ意味の言い回しがたくさんんありますので、頭の中で置換えて読み取って下さい。
Children should be left alone to themselves sometimes.
---子どもたちをたまには一人にしておいた方がいい。→あまり干渉しないほうがいい。
Get off my back. I have it enough.
---うるさくするな。もうたくさんだよ。
Stop being nosy. It's my problem.
---せんさくを止めてくれ、僕の問題だから。

勝手に

♠ make free withで、「無遠慮にふるまう/~を勝手に使う」となります。

♠ 「お付き合いしている。」と言う表現にもいろいろあります。
かじかむ
My fingers were numbed with cold.
---指が寒さでかじかんでいた。
My leg has gone numb.
---足がしびれました。(寒くて)
♠ be numbed with~/go numb:~でかじかむ/~がかじかむ
numbのbは発音しません。
numbは「かじかむ」の他に「しびれる」「感覚が無くなる」などの意味でも使用できます。
ちなみに正座などして「足がしびれた。」は、My legs have fallen asleep.とは言います。
その後にやって来るのが、My legs were pins and needles.「ちくちくする」です。
風邪
I caught a cold.
---風邪をひいた。(風邪をもらった事に着眼点があります。)
I have a cold.
---風邪をひいてる。(今風邪をもっている状態。)
My headache may be caused by a cold.
---頭痛は風邪のせいいかもしれない。

花粉症
毎年花粉症で困っている方も多いと思いますが、海外でも花粉症は有名です。
花粉症は「Hay fever」といい花粉自体は「pollen」と言います。

英語の頑張れにはいろんな表現があります。
普段使われる言い回しを覚えましょう。

直訳しますと、「そこに向かって行け」となります。
正に言いたい事はそのままで、諦めずに向かえと言っています。

Hang in there
直訳しますと、「そこに掴まって落ちるなよ」となります。
「go for it 」とは対照的な意味ですが、こちらもしがみついても頑張れとなります。

直訳しますと。「そのまま継続して頑張れ」となります。
